A SNATCH THIEF
I was walking home from the shopping mall with my mother. On the way home we went to the hawker centre to buy two packets of fragrant chicken rice and I was looking forward to eating a satisfying dinner. With the packets of rice, we turned left into a side lane.
Out of the blue, my mother felt that her handbag was being tugged forcefully by somebody. My mother’s handbag strap gave way and in reaction, she shouted, “Help! Help!” I was not scared as I was a competent kungfu exponent and also a member of my school’s track and field team. So I gave chase and ran as fast as a cheetah.
Two members of the public saw me chasing the thief and they joined in to help me. They caught the thief and I punched him like a punching bag and kicked his leg to subdue him. One of the two men called the police. Within minutes, the police arrived. They arrested the thief and the handbag was returned to my mother. I was commended by the police for nabbing the thief. My mother bought me a meal and an ice-cream from Swensen’s as a reward for helping her get back her handbag.
My mother and I learnt to be vigilant at all times.
